Strange Potatoes is a funny energetic band of musical characters that come together to create maximum fun! Along with an arsenal of songs from almost every genre, Strange Potatoes use wit, charm and a unique interactive approach to performing to create an infectious good time!!
With each member providing lead and harmony vocals while trading off an acoustic and electric guitars, fiddle, mandolin, harmonica, penny whistles, bass and even a stand up drum kit made of suitcases, Strange Potatoes are as comfortable on a festival stage as they are "busking" at a backyard party.
The ensemble that makes up Strange Potatoes are Frites Mashed, Idaho Baked, and Julienne au Grautin. In real life Frites Mashed is John Miller. Former member of local legends Park Bench and the Mickies, John is a multi-instrumentalist and is featured on many of the Potatoes Celtic songs, Jazz and Country standards and 50's/60's numbers. Idaho Baked is really John Eaton former member of Central Ontario's WOLF 101.5 FM Howlers Band and the LIVE KARAOKE BAND. Eaton is the unlikely ringmaster of this Strange Potatoes circus often featured on the retro 80's tunes, punk rock songs and R&B classics. Julienne au Grautin is actually Derek McLean, Derek was noted in the Ottawa area as an acoustic solo performer and brings to the band a wealth of Alternative Rock, Folk and top 40 songs. Occasional drummer and percusionist Skins Russet is also known as Kelly Hannigan president of Music Guy Productions and drummer for the ever popular Frankie and the Favourites.
With a wildly varied repertoire and tremendous on-stage presence Strange Potatoes are a very flexible band the makes, après ski parties, small pubs, large nightclubs and festival stages, their own interactive playground.
